It’s well past time for the government to commission a white paper setting out in a considered fashion the nature of the threats facing Australia from groups that might use terrorist tactics. Not another fucking inquiry with a predetermined outcome but a white paper, written by public servants. You know, the people we employ to give advice to the government without fear or favour, drawing on the full resources of our intelligence and police services.

I’m sickened by the cynically opportunistic bullshit and bluster from Howard’s mob, I’m equally nauseated by Labor’s opportunistic responses, I’m fed up with the endless hysterical slanging matches in the blogosphere and I’m bored stiff with mindless attempts to force the whole discussion into an inane left/right frame … as if social progressives were somehow all in favour of having their friends and family blown up just to stick it up George Bush.
