The Gulf is facing "serious threats" to its security and prosperity, the emir of Qatar has warned leaders of the region.
 
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani told delegates from the Gulf Co-operation Council meeting in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Monday that the region was facing a "mounting crisis".
"We hope that all those who are concerned ... reconsider their positions before it is too late," he said.
 
The GCC monarchies, while staunch US allies, are increasingly worried that the standoff between western states and Iran over Tehran's nuclear programme could escalate into military conflict.
