Mother forgives husband who killed their two little girls

Mother's grief as little girls strangled by their dad buried

Theresa Reilly leaves the church at the funeral of her two little girls who were strangled and drowned by their Irish father

Cavan man Thomas Reilly (46) killed daughters Meghan (6) and Kelly (5) and then hanged himself from the rafters in the attic of his New Jersey home on Thursday.

Fr Michael Hanly told their funeral yesterday in Verona, Newark, New Jersey, how their mother Theresa spoke to him on the night the girls were found.

"While I sat with Theresa for those few hours on Thursday, she said to me: 'Father I've told Tommy I have forgiven him.' God spoke to me through this wonderful woman that night.

"She told me: 'They're are not here any more, they are with God now'," he added.

I asked the Lord to give me a sign so when I get to Theresa I would know what to say to her.

"When I got to Belmar the heavens opened up and the thunder, lightening and rain came down.
