RSS demands ban on religious conversion
BANGALORE: The RSS on Thursday
demanded the Centre to enact a legislation to ban religious conversion. RSS
functionary Srikanth Joshi told
reporters here that the existing provision in
the constitution allows people to profess, practice and propagate any religion
freely. "But it does not grant freedom to convert others. Therefore, the Centre
should enact an effective law to ban religious conversion".
Welcoming
the initiative taken by some churches to condemn conversion-related activities,
Joshi demanded arrest of the culprits responsible for the murder of Swami
Lakshmanananda Saraswathi and his disciplines.
On the arrest of Mahendra Kumar, Bajrang Dal
chief in Karnataka, Joshi said the law will take its course. "The aggressive
proselytizing activities and blasphemous propaganda by evangelical organizations
have hurt some people in parts of the state," he
said.
