How to assess the problem
If you're concerned that an aging relative may no longer be mentally or physically fit to drive, here are some ideas for broaching that tough conversation.
Watch for warning signs
Assess how mom or dad is doing by casually tagging along on a couple of short trips in the car. See for yourself if your parent is tentative or slow behind the wheel, or drifts in and out of the lane. Note if there are any dings or dents in the car, and find out if friends are reluctant to be a passenger with your parent.
