East Naples firefighter and paramedic wheel a pilot on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance after his helicopter, a Schweizer 300CBi, a small non-commercial helicopter, crashed Thursday morning East of the Naples airport next to a swimming pool at the Avion Woods complex. The helicopter left from Naples airport the same morning. Officials are assuming it lost power and that is was not a pilot error. The pilot was conscious and breathing, and suffered only a broken femur
The pilot was the only one in the helicopter and was semi-conscious when he was pulled from the wreckage within minutes of the crash, said Greg Spears, spokesman for the East Naples Fire District. The pilot’s name was not immediately available. No one was in the pool at the time of the crash.
