Urge Defra to Reject Higher Stocking Densities for Chickens

Take Action Below
As if factory farming weren't already cruel enough, the UK government is currently considering changing the welfare laws for chickens raised for meat – for the worse. Farming Minister Jane Kennedy is currently considering introducing European Union regulations that would allow even more chickens to be crammed onto factory farms, boosting profits for the farmers at the expense of chicken welfare.

If the proposal is implemented in the UK, in certain circumstances, farmers will now be allowed to force up to 21 fully grown birds into every square metre. That's the equivalent size of less than an A4 sheet of paper per fully grown chicken. Although the government must adopt the minimum standards set by the European Directive, it can choose to introduce higher standards.

Please write to Defra Minister Jim Fitzpatrick MP now and urge her to reject higher stocking densities for broiler chickens
