Although diabetes is a common disease, parents still often 'overdiagnosis' their child as being sick with diabetes. In a child, simply drinking a lot or urinating a lot, is often not a real symptom of diabetes, unless it is accompanied by weight loss or other symptoms. Diabetes can be harder to diagnosis in teens and adults, who instead of losing weight, are often overweight when they have Type II diabetes.
